Thank you and speedy recovery from your shoulder injury (I feel your pain – literally). Regards from Transilvania.

The last 200hp bike I swung a leg over was a ‘16 RSV4, and I hope to swing a leg over own of these some day. Filing the V4s under bikes I’d like to ride, but probably won’t own.

There’s an argument to be made for the 888, but to Jensen’s point, I don’t have a life-size poster on my garage wall of an 888….it’s a 916. I’d also mention the success the 916/996/998 brought to the brand on the racetrack, though their talented pilots were certainly a factor. The 851/888 might have got the ball rolling, but the 916 was a true paradigm shift for Ducati and for superbikes in general.

I could never touch the true potential of this machine, but I’d love to try anyway.

Yeah, reasonable minds kind disagree on this one, for sure. I’ll ask this though, is Ducati the brand it is today if the 916 and its progeny never came to fruition?

While the 916 was everything you say it was and more, the 888 to me was the bike that started it all. I had two, a street bike and a race bike, and can still kick myself for selling them. It’s a beautiful bike in it’s own right and, under Doug Polen, started the modern Ducati superbike era. Just my humble opinion.

It appears to be an italian thing though, people have been complaining about every CBR/R1/GSXR ABS since their inception 6 years ago.

Why is it these tiny (by comparison) companies can continue to improve their products and give their consumers a reason to buy the new one when the huge companies can’t seem to make that progress? bureaucracy?

Having had an 1198 and the first iteration of the Panigale on-track, having a go with this would be a moonshot for me. Excellent read!

ETA: thanks for my new wallpaper

To be fair though I like the 999 now, for some reason.
